Jonathan Suspends Sanusi, CBN Governor

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday suspended the Governor of Central Bank, Mallam Lamido Sanusi over alleged “acts of financial recklessness and misconduct”.

This from a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati. Abati said the president ordered Sanusi to hand over to the most senior Deputy Governor of the bank, Dr Sarah Alade, until the conclusion of on-going investigation against the suspended CBN boss.

Abati said the president took the action following reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicated that Sanusi’s tenure was characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct. He said the findings against Sanusi were inconsistent with the Federal Government’s vision of a CBN propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline.

Jonathan directed that Alade would serve as Acting Governor until the conclusion of on-going investigations into alleged breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the CBN. Abati said the president expected that Alade should focus on the core mandate of the bank and conduct its affairs with greater professionalism, prudence and propriety to restore domestic and international confidence in its operations. “The Federal Government of Nigeria reassures all stakeholders in Nigeria’s financial and monetary system that this decision has been taken in absolute good faith, in the overall interest of the Nigerian economy and in accordance with our laws and due process.”

The Wisconsin National Guard announced Tuesday that it had suspended a member from honor guard duties after she apparently posted to social media a photograph of soldiers mugging around an empty, flag-draped casket.

The group photograph taken at a National Guard training facility in Arkansas sparked a furor on Facebook, in military chat rooms and other social media, where people saw it as disrespectful of veterans and those killed in action. The National Guard said it was taking steps to protect the soldier who posted the photograph after she received death threats.

The photograph originally posted on Instagram shows about a dozen soldiers clowning around a casket draped in a flag. Several hug playfully. One flashes a peace sign. Another has his back turned and is pointing off in the distance.

The caption reads, "We put the FUN in funeral -- your fearless honor guard from various states."

The photograph was posted from an account belonging to Spc. Terry Harrison, of the Madison, Wis.-based 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment, according to the National Guard.

That account has since been closed, but others have reposted the picture and Harrison's comments on multiple social media sites.

Judy Vincent, of Poteau, Okla., said she saw the picture when a friend reposted it on Facebook.

"It was like somebody slapped me in the face. I've never in my life seen such disrespect for the fallen or the families," said Vincent, whose son died in Iraq in 2004.

"It raises questions in your mind," said wife Judy Vincent. "What did they think of me and was my loved one treated with disrespect?"

Harrison, a full-time member of the National Guard, has been suspended from Wisconsin's honor guard and assigned to other duties while an investigation is ongoing, said Maj. Paul Rickert, the Wisconsin National Guard's director of public affairs.

Wisconsin officials also have notified the National Guard Bureau because the other soldiers in the photograph were from other units, Rickert said. The National Guard Bureau did not immediately return a message left for comment.

Attempts to reach Harrison by phone and email were unsuccessful. The National Guard has taken steps to protect her after she received death threats through social media and other means, Rickert said.

First Toolz Thoughts’ of 2014

This is my first Toolz Thoughts’ of 2014, so I can still say Happy New Year beautiful people! We made it to 2014- all thanks to God! First off, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that reads Toolz’ Thoughts. Writing is something I find great comfort in, but I haven’t always been confident about. Your comments, tweets, RTs are so encouraging and I thank each and every one of you for that.

One of the main reasons I love doing Toolz’ Thoughts is because it promotes discussion, which I think we need more of – especially in this country. I genuinely enjoy reading and learning from (most of) the comments and once again thank you to everyone that contributes.
*and end of thank you speech*

I stumbled across this book: ‘The Confident Woman’ by Joyce Meyer in my sister’s library and so far it has been an awesome read.
There’s a particular paragraph that really resonated with me. I’m trying to be a better business-woman, so this bit of wisdom had perfect timing. Joyce wrote: Confident people do not concentrate on their weaknesses; they develop and maximize their strengths… … The world is not hungry for mediocrity’

There are certain skills that on a scale of 1 to 10, we might be at a ’2′. You could work at being better at this skill day and night; dedicate a huge percentage of your time to it. With the blood, sweat, and tears you put into being better at the skill, you could end up being a ‘5’. However, while you have been putting all that effort into eradicating a weakness, you have probably neglected the opportunity to perfect a skill that you are naturally gifted at. Essentially you may have missed the opportunity to turn a ‘6’ into a ‘9’.
Joyce follows up with a story about a pastor she interviewed and when she asked about his weaknesses the pastor said: ‘I don’t concentrate on them. I am sure I have some, but I can’t tell you because I just don’t focus on them’.

I can’t say I agree with ignoring your weaknesses, but I definitely think it may be more effective to limit the amount

We give you a better look of the streets
